ABSTRACT:
In order to achieve smooth and efficient operation in large complex modern world systems, like the smart electricity grid, we look to ways of managing complexity and uncertainty. A smart grid contains networking technolgies (sensors and controls) that make it possible to monitor electricity in real-time and make automatic changes to reduce energy waste. One critical aspect is that grid operators must be able to instantly diagnose faults that could lead to cascading outages. We propose a probabilistic method to manage uncertainty in the diagnosis of such a network.
