ABSTRACT:
Simulating social phenomena such as the evolution of social norms or socio-economic choices in a society is a challenging area of investigation. Recent technological advances have made Agent Based Modelling (ABM) an effective research tool, however many technical and methodological challenges remain. I am investigating the problem of model scalability and the prospects and challenges for multi-scale models as a potential solution. In particular, I am investigating the dynamics of Axelrod's cultural dissemination model as a candidate coarse scale model in a multi-scale modelling scenario.
