ABSTRACT:
Demand response provides some control over when electricity is consumed. This can be used to manage peak flows and to enable a high penetration of renewables. The economic benefits of modifying the behaviour of loads needs to be balanced against the disadvantages this can lead to for the load owners. I've been developing a scheduler that can optimally schedule the operation of loads within a residence given an external price signal, while considering customer preferences and physical device constraints. This work will be extended to enable the scheduler to account for uncertainty, and to develop coordination between many schedulers.
