ABSTRACT:
COMP2720 was run the first time in semester 2/2005. It aimed at digital arts students who had previously done COMP1710. The syllabus of COMP2720 stated: "This course will introduce script-level programming in the context of New Media. Topics covered will include the nature of New Media applications, New Media data formats and data manipulation, program organisation, control structures, writing and debugging New Media programs."

We ended up having more than 70 students, with around 75% of them being later-year BIT or SE students, and only 3 doing digital arts.

We used Python and an educational programming environment to develop small programs for image, sound, text and HTML manipulations.

In this talk I will give an overview of the course, present some results from three questionnaires (entry, mid-term and end-of- semester), and reflect upon the experience of running such a new course.
