Assessment for COMP1100 in 2003

The assessment scheme for COMP1100 in 2003, as proposed in the lecture on 11 March 2003 and confirmed in the lecture on 25 March 2003, is as follows.

The five assignments will be weighted as follows

                  (Draft) Deadline
     -----------------------------
      a1     0%     21 Mar 2003
      a2    20%      4 Apr 2003
      a3    20%     17 Apr 2003
      a4    30%     16 May 2003
      a5    30%      6 Jun 2003

The `raw' score S will be calculated using the arithmetic mean (average) of the assignment (A out of 100) and exam (E out of 100) components when the difference between A and E is less than or equal to 20; otherwise S will be equal to 10 plus the lesser of A, E. This is effectively equivalent to saying that you must pass (or nearly pass) both components of assessment.

              A + E
         S = -------          for |A - E| <= 20
                2

         S = 10 + min(A, E)   for |A - E| > 20

The raw scores may be scaled.
