You will be given some weeks to do each assignment.
The due dates for the assignments assume that, during the period allowed for doing the assignment:
Assignment submissions will be accepted up to one week after the due date with an appropriate late penalty.
You are allowed to submit assignments before the due date.
Assignment submissions will not be accepted after solution notes are posted on this website.

The official due time on the due date is 4pm.
StReaMS will have a due time of 23.59 on the due date.
That is, assignments will not be tagged as LATE until
midnight on the due date, so you have an eight hour period of grace.
However, if the system goes down, or you get sick, or your dog eats your assignment, or ... during the period of grace, this will not be grounds for an extension.

The standard late penalty for COMP1100 will be 4 marks per day or part thereof.

The maximum possible extension is one week.
Students who receive an extension are not entitled to a one week late period.
Extensions will be granted only for extraordinary events that are outside your control, such as illness. You cannot have an extension simply because you have other assignments due around the same time; or because you have social events which you wish to attend; or because you will be out of town on the day the assignment is due.
Extensions will not be granted solely on the basis of an email request.
If you believe that you are entitled to an extension, you should give the evidence which supports your request for the extension to the course coordinator as soon as possible.
For example: If you have a problem, or are sick in Week 4, do not wait until Week 8 before you inform the course coordinator.
If you cannot contact the course coordinator in person, you may leave the documentation supporting your request for an extension at the DCS Office, Room N340, on Level 3 of the CS&IT Building [108].
Normally, you cannot have an extension which is longer than the period covered by a medical certificate (or other accepted document).
For example: If you have a sick certificate saying you were sick for one day, then you will be granted an extension of one day.
If you miss the due date, and you believe that you are entitled to an extension, you should submit your assignment as soon as possible, and make your request for an extension (or a reduction of the late penalty) as soon as possible.
Even if you have documentation for a period longer than one week,
the maximum possible extension is one week.

For serious problems, you should contact the course coordinator - who may vary the specification of your assignment; or cancel that assignment and increase the weight of your other assessment components; or vary your assessment in any other appropriate way.
The more notice you give of potential problems with submitting assignments, the easier it is for the course coordinator to help you.
If your problem is so severe that you are unable to contact the course coordinator yourself, your family may contact the course coordinator on your behalf.
