About PAL

Peer Assisted Learning runs weekly group study sessions in COMP1100/COMP1130 starting from week 2. Come along to PAL to:

  • Meet new people
  • Improve groupwork and study skills
  • Improve your understanding of course content

Each session is facilitated by two second or third year mentors who plan activities and help with group discussion.

When?

COMP1100/COMP1130 PAL runs every week at the following times and locations:

  • 10am Monday: HAN 2.28
  • 11am Tuesday: HAN 2.28
  • 12pm Thursday: CSIT N109
  • 10am Friday: HAN 2.24

Each session lasts an hour, and there's no need to enrol or register – just turn up!

Three of these sessions run on the second floor of Hancock West. Once you've found your way to Hancock Library, head around to the back entrance. Head up the stairs and follow the rooms around to the left – 2.27 and 2.28 are towards the back of this area.

COMP1130

We're also running an additional fortnightly session for COMP1130. This runs right after the lecture on Wednesday at 3pm, starting in Week 4 (13th March) in CSIT N109. Come along to chat to fellow students and practice skills relevant to the additional material.

Contact

If you have any suggestions for things we could talk about in sessions, don't hesitate to post in the Streams forum or send us an email. Our emails are on the front page, but if you post on Streams you might find other people who are having the same problem as you.

Session Resources

Resources used and created in PAL sessions are made available to everyone through our public dropbox folders:

Recursion

xkcd also knows a lot about recursion:

Side effect free random number generation

Haskell's side-effect free functions mean that it's a bit tricky to generate random numbers:
