| Course Description: | These Courses are seminar-style programs. They each consists of about 4
events per semester, such as seminars from visiting or staff
academics, or panel discussion or debate sessions on topical
subjects. Other sessions might include learning and studying
skills, talks from industry representatives,
hot topics, and surveys. Some
sessions will be led by staff from areas such as the library,
counselling, study skills, and other university resource centres.
Some sessions between the three courses may combined (eg. COMP1800 and COMP2800, or COMP2800 and COMP3800), depending on the nature of the session and the availability of speakers. For this reason, our normal venue for sessions will be CHEM T1 (bldg 34), and will run within the allocated timeslot 14:00 -- 16:00 Mondays of selected weeks. Sessions will normally start at 15:00; they may occasionally run for slightly longer than one hour, in which case they will start earlier. You should keep these hours free from other commitments. Please see below for the schedule for your specific course. CSIT N101 or Ian Ross Seminar Room (R214) or RSISE Seminar Room A105 (ground floor, bldg 115, cnr. North and Daley Roads) may also be used as alternate venues. |

| Schedule: | You are expected to check your respective schedule weekly for events; please do not rely on any email `reminders'. Note that the schedules are subject to change, due to speaker unavailability and other unforeseen circumstances. Note that students are welcome to `sit in' on any seminar of interest scheduled for COMP*800 courses that they are not currently enrolled in. Of course, doing so will not count towards the assessment of their current course. Student suggestions for future sessions are welcome. |
| Course Assessment: | A grade of satisfactory will be awarded to attendants who
attend 75% of events or more
and submit reports (of a few hundred words) on these sessions
which subsequently receive a satisfactory grading.
These reports must be submitted electronically within two working days of
the session.
Note that these requirements are strict.
Where a session does not require a report, mere attendance will be sufficient.
`Apologies' should be given for missed sessions or unsubmitted reports.
More details on rationale, requirements, attendance, report submission and feedback can be found at the course assessment page. Please study this as it contains important information on these issues, and also on timetable clashes & enrolment pitfalls. Follow the links here for feedback (from the reports) made on the sessions for comp1800, comp2800 and comp3800. |
