COMP2720 — Assessment Scheme
In semester 2, 2008 the assessment will contain the following three
components.
- Portfolio (30%)
- You can get up to 30 marks for this component.
- It consists of the 6 supervised labs and your final
portfolio.
- In each of the 6 labs one (1) mark will be awarded for
attendance and one (1) mark for showing your workings to
your tutor. In total you can get 12 marks for your labs.
Note: The mark for showing lab work can only be
gained in the current lab or the following, but not later.
- Up to 18 marks will be awarded for your final portfolio
submission, which will consist of a Web page that should
contain all your labs and home works and additional material
(details on this will be published in the
Portfolio paper).
- Practical (30%)
- You can get up to 30 marks for this component.
- This practical part consists of two assignments, each worth
15% of your final mark.
- Final exam (40%)
- This will be a mark out of 40.
- It will be a 3 hour written exam held at the end of
the semester during the normal examination period.
Please note:
- Any changes to the assessment scheme will be announced and
discussed in lectures and posted to this Web page.
- If there are no changes to the proposed scheme by the end
of week 2 (Friday 1 August 2008), it will be the scheme that
will be used.
Plagiarism
- No group work is permitted for any part of the assessment. We
do encourage you to discuss your work in the labs and lectures,
but we expect you to do the submitable work by yourself.
- We do take plagiarism seriously! You should read the chapter in the
Department of Computer Science Student Handbook that discusses
assessment (Chapter 6, pages 18-25), particularly the sections
headed Misconduct in examinations (which also applies to
assignments and other forms of assessment) and Collaboration versus
misconduct in assignments.
Final course mark
- To pass this course you must score at least
- 25 out of 60 for your total portfolio and practical
(assignment) marks, and
- 15 out of 40 for your final exam mark.
- If you have less than 25/60 for your total portfolio and
practical mark, or less than 15/40 for your final exam mark,
then you will fail this course with a final mark that is
either 44/100 OR the sum of your marks, whichever is the
lower.
- Otherwise, your final course mark will be the sum of all
your marks.
Supplementary exams
Supplementary exams will be awarded only to those students who meet
both of the following criteria:
- The student has a final mark of at least 45/100, but less
than 50/100.
Access to your marks
You should be able to view your marks using
StReaMS (the Student
Registration and Marks System). You need to login using your ANU
