COMP4100 in 2007
Software Quality Management
Assessment Details
COURSE ASSESSORS:
Malcolm Newey,
Clive Boughton and
Chris Johnson.
Assessment Distribution
- 30% for assignment work
- Assignment 1 (HOL) due after Easter is worth 8%
- Assignment 2 (Z) due in week 10 is worth 8%
- Assignment 3 (Inspection) due in week 12 is worth 14%
- 70% for final examination
- Formal methods questions are worth 35%;
- Process-oriented questions are worth 35%.
Minimal Exam Performance
A student who does not achieve at least 30% in the final
examination will automatically fail the course unless other
mitigating circumstances prevail.
A student who undertakes a supplementary examination but does
not pass will also fail the course.
Nature of Assignments
The assignments will all be problem examples in the areas
indicated above. Each will have a duration that is roughly
proportional to its weight, as follows, and they vary in the
extent to which they are group based.
- For assignment 1 the norm will be groups of 2 and the
expected duration is 12 hours per person.
(Individual
submission is acceptable, though not encouraged.)
- For assignment 2 the norm will be groups of 2 and the
expected duration is 10 hours per person.
(Individual
submission is acceptable, though not encouraged.)
- Assignment 3 will be designed for groups of 5 (or 4 or 6) to
complete in less than 15 hours per person.
The times quoted above do not include the time you may
need to learn the material that you are applying. On the
contrary, it is assumed that you will have read and understood
the appropriate lecture and tutorial material beforehand.
It is expected that assignments will be handed in on time, but
a late penalty of 10% per day will apply.
In the case of assignment 3 group work will be part of the
requirements, with target group size being 5. A severe
timing constraint for this assignment is that the documents
to be inspected cannot be made available until week 11,
since they are SRS's supplied by 3100/3500/4500 groups.
eScience & Honours Students
Students enrolled in COMP6312 do only the inspection
assignment and the process-oriented half of the exam. The
assignment 3 weight then becomes 30%.
Honours students who
are taking the course for 3 points declare which half
they will be assessed on and the above component weights
are adjusted in the obvious way.
