Computer Graphics

Open Lab

In this lab you are free to do a lab of your own choosing. So think up an area you are interested in and do a short lab on it. This could be: using some graphics software; investigating graphics in a particular language; investigating a particular library; writing a short graphics program; or investigating a graphics format or protocol.

If you are short on ideas then some possibilities are:

  • generating a fractal image,
  • looking at VRML and tools for viewing and generating it,
  • investigate image sizes and quality in jpeg for different compression settings,
  • combining sound and visual effects in Java, or
  • making one of those scenes that looks like random mess of pixels but when you go cross eyes a 3D image pops out.

Step 1 (4 marks)

Complete some sort of artifact for the lab. (e.g. write the code and generate a fractal image.)

Step 2 (2 mark)

Complete some type of analysis of the lab that you have done. (e.g. you could graph the time your fractal image takes to generate as the size of the image changes, or you could examine the improvement in image quality as a different level of anti-aliasing )
