Your grade for COMP8120 will be based on your results in the following assessable components of the course. In-class small group exercises: 30 marksEach week we will look at a different topic within the scope of system/software development methodologies. When appropriate, you will be given some reading to do in preparation for each class. During the class we will discuss the topic and then conduct a small group exercise to practice some of the ideas presented. Each group will hand in their work at the end of the class and the lecturer will mark it out of ten (10). At the end of the semester, these results will be used to determine a mark out 30 for each individual student. Mid-semester written examination: 35 marksA 120 minute mid-semester examination will be held, under normal examination conditions, during the lecture time slot in week 9. The examination will assess your understanding of the material presented in weeks 2 through 8. Final oral examination: 35 marksEach students will be required to attend a 20 minute individual oral examination during the Semester Two examination period. The aim of this examination will be to assess your overall understanding of the system/software development methodologies presented in COMP8120. This will include your ability to choose appropriate methodologies for a given task as well as your understanding of emerging ideas and how they might impact the future of software and systems engineering. Requirements to pass the courseTo pass COMP8120, students must receive more than 50% of the marks for each assessment item. ModerationFinal marks are moderated by the Department of Computer Science examiners meeting.
