Welcome to COMP8130/COMP4130 for 2008. COMP8130 is an elective within the Master of Software Engineering. The course is intended to provide both experienced and relatively new software developers/engineers with practical information concerning inspection and testing of various artefacts that are typically produced during the development of small to large software systems. The most important techniques of quality management that have been found to significantly enhance the quality of both software products and the corresponding development processes will be discussed/presented in this course. Because of the absence of Clive Boughton this semester (on his sabbatical) COMP8130 will be run by Adrian Marshall from Capstone Black a professional testing company that performs all of the quality management tasks described in this course every day in industry. However, Adrian cannot be available to run the normal number of lecture/workshop sessions for COMP8130, and so Masters students will be given extra research/practical assignments to help fulfill overall course requirements. COMP4130 is a new 4th year course for students undertaking the Bachelor of Software Engineering. This new course is an amalgamation of two previously separate courses (COMP4100 and COMP4110) which together covered Quaility Management and Software Process respectively. This combined course of COMP8130/COMP4130 represents 50% of the overall course requirements for COMP4130 students.
