COMP8320 Assessment 2009
Proposed Assessment Scheme
The proposed assessment scheme for COMP8320 in 2009 will be in the following parts:
- Assignments: 15%, one.
This will contain a significant programming component, plus a report
answering specific questions, such as analysis of program performance.
It will be released in week 3 and due in week 8.
- Small Team Research Project and Presentation 40%
Students will form teams of 3--4 working on one of the four multicore
specialty topics, each supervised by a researcher from the School:
This will involve two components, each involving a written report and
presentation:
- Theory: This will involve the in-depth study of a number
of readings on the theme, covering its key motivations, techniques and
significance in the field. Due in week 10.
- Practice: This will involve a programming project
on the theme. The report will include relevant related work,
and some analysis and evaluation.
Due in week 12.
The weighting of the components will be negotiated, depending on the theme
(but must be between 10% and 30% of the total assessment).
Statements of the contributions of the members will be required;
these will be used if needed to distribute marks to the members.
- Final Examination 45%
The examination will include topics from Project themes.
One A4 page of notes (both sides, printed or hand written)
is permitted; a calculator is not permitted.
These components are then added to give your final mark. This may then
be scaled to give your overall course mark and grade. In particular, the
final marks may be moderated by the School of Computer Science
examiners meeting.
Notes:
- We will discuss the proposed scheme in weeks 1 and 2.
There is some scope for flexibility.
Extensions and Late Penalties for Assignments
This will be as for COMP2300/6300 2009.
