Students taking Masters project courses can have priority access to one of the workstations in the Masters Lab (currently CSIT N224). There are also a number of computer systems that are available for use in student projects:
Monolith is the PC that drives the Wedge virtual reality display theatre. As well as virtual reality, can be used for multichannel sound and research into various forms of user interaction and user input devices. Many projects will start off using eScience lab machines in their development stages and then port to monolith in their final stages. Make sure you allow enough time to get to know how to use Monolith and the Wedge; we require you to use them during office hours for a week until you are elligible for after hours access.
Sharp Zaurus PDA with wireless network link and capable of being programmed in Java, C, or other languages. This may be reserved for specific projects.
Thridi is another virtual reality capable PC, with projectors for a passive virtual reality display using polarised glasses. This may be reserved for specific projects.
Programmable GPU nVidia FX5200 graphics cards are installed in three eScience PCs and can be used for advanced 3D rendering.
Two Macintosh computers running MacOSX with development software, suitable for multimedia and graphical projects. These may be reserved for specific projects. Some specific softwares are available : The full Realviz suite (and especially Realviz Sticher to create panoramic images, and Image Modeler to extrac t 3D model from still images)
There is a small number of Laptops with Windows or Linux which can be assigned to students especilly for projects involving work outside the ANU.
