Honours coursework

Honours students will take 24 units of coursework and a research project worth 24 units. They do not enroll online in courses, but are enrolled by the Honours Convenor in the first week of Semester.

The following honours courses will be on offer to students in 2011. You must make a selection which is approximately balanced between the two semesters, or slightly weighted towards your first semester.

Lecture times can be found from ANU webpage ANU time table at S2, 2009.

Generally speaking, you can enroll in most courses starting with COMP4XXX or some COMP6XXX or above. Sometimes, you may also be allowed to enroll in a third year course COMP3XXX but having a different course code COMP6XXX (e.g. COMP3620 and COMP6320), provided that you have not done that course before, and you will be assigned extra components for that course in comparison with the 3rd year students. Some COMP6XXX and COMP8XXX are not designed for Honours studuents; Honours students are not normally allowed to enroll in such courses. Talk to the lecturer or the Honours Convenor if in doubt.

In some circumstances a course offered by a different department (e.g. a course with a MATH or ENGN code) may suit your requirements better than a COMP course. Again, talk to the Honours convenor if this applies to you.

It is generally a good idea to consult your Honours project supervisor before the start of Semester 1 about courses that may be important, useful or interesting for you.
