Conclusions

A WEB document for a language interpreter/compiler spread over several assignments looks a promising foundation for more advanced courses in design and large-scale programming. It presents some difficulties to students, and the earlier it, along with [LaTeX], it is introduced, the better. But its value as an educational tool transcends its software role: it strongly encourages the students to describe what they are doing. Written communication skills can easily sink under the burden of technological proficiency demanded of computer science students.
