Abstract: PIS, a personal information searcher, provides a unified "metasearch" interface to any number of search engines so that it is possible, for example, to search email; calendars; websites; and local files simultaneously. It includes modules for a number of search engines as well as the typical metasearch tasks of search engine characterisation and selection, and includes support for user experiments. This document briefly describes the implementation of PIS, with emphasis on writing any future extensions.
