Tuggeranong Rugby Club, proud hosts of our chess club

Welcome to the home page of the Tuggeranong Chess Club in Canberra - the capital city of Australia. The Tuggeranong and Woden Valleys are a large part of the southern region of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).  They are about 20 and 10 minutes respectively from the city centre. The Tuggeranong Chess Club is the place to play competitive chess on the south side of Canberra.  The club provides a relaxed and comfortable place to play chess for people of all ages and standards.
  • If you have only ever dabbled at chess or you can play quite well then come along and try us out.
  • We have a wide variety of people who play at the club with varying skills from beginners through to some of the top 25 players in Canberra.
  • Tuggeranong is considered to be the best place in Canberra to start playing club chess.

Club Information

We meet in the downstairs room at the: Tuggeranong Valley Rugby Union and Amateur Sports Club in Ricardo Street, Wanniassa (near the Erindale Shops).
We meet on Monday nights at 7:30pm.

Latest news:

There is now chess coaching every Saturday morning at the venue between 10am-12noon. Sessions are aimed at juniors and seniors. For more information, contact: Shaun.Press@cs.anu.eu.au or see the coaching section of this site. Players of all standards are welcome.

June 2000:

Isaac Arsanis took out the 2000 Club Championship for the second year running. See "Results" for more details.

March 1999:

Andrew Greenwood took out the 2000 Club Lightning Championship. This event is named the Karl Galli Cup in his honour.

The 2000 Woden Cup was played early this year. Shaun Press took out the event with 5/5.

The 2000 AGM saw the resignation of David Henri as club Secretary. David is to be thanked for his three years of service and assistance in growing the club to record levels.
