Dierdre Pearce is a visual artist and scientist whose research uses sculptural, installation, performative and relational methods to study the complex, layered experience of human subjectivity in the ‘cognisphere’, a term coined by Thomas Whalen which N. Katherine Hayles has adapted to describe the dynamic networked systems which encompass both human and machine cognition.
Formerly an academic in chemistry, Dierdre Pearce graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) in 2014 and is now undertaking interdisciplinary research supported by the Sculpture workshop and Human-Centred Computing, ANU College of Engineering and Applied Science. In 2018 her research took her to artist residencies in Mexico and Finland, and she has exhibited in ACT, NSW, Vic Finland and USA. She teaches in Foundation Studies at the ANU School of Art & Design.
