Art & Interaction in New Media

COMP1720/6720 (Semester 2 2017)

In this course you’ll learn to tell stories through interactive code art. It’s not just an art course, and it’s not just a code course: you’ll need to use both halves of your brain, and I think you’ll have a lot of fun in the process. No previous coding or artistic experience is required: we’ll teach you everything from the ground up.

The course has been improved over last year’s version: this year we’ll make art in the browser with javascript and the p5 library. So when you want to share the art you make (and I really think you will) then you can just tweet out a link.

This site contains all the course content: the policies, lecture slides, lab content, and the assignments and other resources. The material from the later weeks isn’t there yet, but it’ll go up as the semester progresses.

If you’ve enrolled and just landed on this page, the course has an FAQ, which includes a “starting the course” checklist. Finally, the course forums are on Piazza, so head on over and bookmark that page as well.

If I can help in any way, let me know on Piazza or by email (
