Welcome, S2 2018 students. This is still last year’s version of the course website, but soon1 I’ll switch it over to this year’s version.

The course won’t be fundamentally different from last year—just a few tweaks and improvements here and there. So feel free to look around at this site, and remember that things will only be better in 2018 :)

Art & Interaction in New Media

Semester 2 2017

In this course you’ll learn to tell stories through interactive code art. It’s not just an art course, and it’s not just a code course: you’ll need to use both halves of your brain, and (I hope) you’ll have a lot of fun in the process. No previous coding or artistic experience is required: we’ll teach you everything from the ground up.

In this course you’re an artist, and your canvas is the web browser with javascript and the p5 library. So when you want to share the art you make (and I really think you will) then you can just tweet out a link.

This site contains all the course content: the policies, lecture slides, lab content, and the assignments and other resources. The material from the later weeks isn’t there yet, but it’ll go up as the semester progresses.

If I can help in any way, get in touch via email (ben.swift@anu.edu.au).
