Engagement Opportunity - Office of National Intelligence (ONI) - Prototype National Intelligence Community Smart Satellite System (NICSAT)

12.30pm Friday 8 May 2020
The Office of National Intelligence is looking for a contractor to to provide research and engineering services in order to develop, build, test, launch and operate a prototype or proof-of-concept “smart” satellite to demonstrate the application of miniaturised satellite systems with on-board machine learning applications.
The timeframe for the work is from June 2020 to July 2021.
The core objective of the work is to complete a demonstration of on-board machine learning applications against multiple data sources. It is expected that this will combine a systematic approach to research and development with commercial off-the-shelf solutions to provide ONI with, but not limited to, the following outcomes:
  1. the feasibility of on-board machine learning applications against both imagery and radio frequency (RF) data.
  2. the application of machine learning methods for autonomous space-based Artificial Intelligence operations.
  3. the potential for the delivery of actionable information from AI-capable space-based platforms directly to the user minimising the need to downlink all the data to the ground station.
Please find attached more information.
