Summer Research Scholarships
These programs are currently unavailable and will not be offered in Summer 2020/2021
Each year, the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science offers a number of Summer Research Scholarships for non-ANU students and Summer Research Internships for ANU students. These are designed to equip high-achieving undergraduate students with the foundational skills and experience necessary to pursue a postgraduate research degree.
Students work under the supervision of a senior academic, and often in a wider group of researchers and PhD students, gaining hands-on experience of life as an academic researcher and stretching academic and personal boundaries.
Duration and academic credit
Programs generally run for eight to nine weeks, late November through to late January (excluding the Christmas/New year break). They cannot typically be counted towards the requirements of a formal academic program.
The program is open to domestic and international students who are currently studying at a university in either Australia or New Zealand. Priority is given to students who have completed their third year of study though other students are still welcome to apply.
External (i.e. non-ANU) students from Australia and New Zealand are eligible to apply for a Summer Research Scholarship. Students will be provided with full board accommodation on campus, an allowance of $135pw, and reimbursement of travel costs direct to and from the ANU to a maximum of $1000.
ANU students are eligible to apply for a Summer Research Internship. Students are paid an allowance of $270 per week. In the event that ANU students do not have accommodation available in Canberra, they will be eligible for the same board and allowance as the Summer Research Scholarship holders.
Academic GPA requirements
Priority is given to students who have a minimum GPA of 6.0/7.0 (or very similar). The program is very competitive, so students with GPA's well below this should reconsider applying.
Research projects and supervision
The attached PDF contains a preliminary list of projects for students to choose from (see the attached PDF below). Please note that the list of projects may be progressively updated.
Students should contact prospective supervisors directly, to ensure that their desired project is available for supervision, and that the student has the requisite academic background to be considered.
To lodge an application, students can apply through the ANU Programs and Courses / ANU Summer Research Scholarship Program webpage. Select the Apply button in the top right hand corner.
Students must indicate (i) your choice of College and (ii) your choice of project clearly on your application form. Be sure to include the title of your chosen project and the name of your prospective supervisor.
You must supply colour scans of official academic transcripts for all tertiary study, as well as two referee reports. Applications will not be assessed without these documents.
NOTE: these programs are currently unavailable and will not be offered in Summer 2020/2021.
